The Auckland War Memorial Museum in Auckland, New Zealand is located on the Maori hill. It has been there since 1929 and was built in memory of those who had fought in their war and died. It is considered to be one of New Zealand’s best heritage museums.
When you first step up to the Auckland War Memorial Museum you will notice the beautiful views over the Cenotaph forecourt to the Domain. Beyond that is the Waitemata Harbour city. Once you step inside the museum you will be amazed at the structure and memorials inside.
This museum is home to New Zealand’s largest collection of Pacific and Maori Island taonga (treasures). There are many interactive discovery centers for children of all ages as well as the Scars on the Heart exhibition – which is the war history for New Zealand.
You will even be given a 20 minute Maori cultural performance that features poi dances, stick games, songs, and a weaponry display. There is also a café, book shop, and gift store housed inside the musuem.
